Every generation has an emgering "rebel" genre that older don't like think it's not music. It's usually diffrent from anything else. Rap/Hip Hop is the new kid on the block.
Personally I look some but not most rap (as well as country) but it *is* music, the younger people in to rap will have a lot of people hate the "new" thing as not being music when there time comes.
Listen to what you like, don't listen to what you don't like.

Except that I'm 18 and I'm listening to the music that my parents listened to.
Hmm...maybe that example doesn't hold up after all.

The argument that consists of "Rap is bad, I hate rap, all rap sucks" is getting just a TAD bit redundant, which is a joke because it is a stupid statement to begin with. Nothing more, nothing less.

In between attacking me you did make a valid point. It probably isn't my place to say ALL rap is bad. Perhaps I should have just said "Every single rapper I have listened to is nothing but a moron stringing together profanity that sort-of rhymes"

Another good rap song - Sir Mixalot and that BIG BUTTS rap:
*rap*
I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up tough
Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But that butt you got
Make Me so horney
Ooh, rump of smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my benz
Well use me use me cuz you aint that average groupy
I've seen them dancin'
To hell with romancin'
She's Sweat,Wet, got it goin like a turbo vette
I'm tired of magazines
Saying flat butts are the thing
Take the average black man and ask him that
She gotta pack much back
So Fellas (yeah) Fellas(yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back
(LA face with Oakland booty)
I like'em round and big
And when I'm throwin a gig
I just can't help myself
I'm actin like an animal
Now here's my scandal
I wanna get you home
And UH, double up UH UH
I aint talkin bout playboy
Cuz silicone parts were made for toys
I wannem real thick and juicy
So find that juicy double
Mixalot's in trouble
Beggin for a piece of that bubble
So I'm lookin' at rock videos
Knockin these bimbos walkin like hoes
You can have them bimbos
I'll keep my women like Flo Jo
A word to the thick soul sistas
I wanna get with ya
I won't cus or hit ya
But I gotta be straight when I say I wanna --
Til the break of dawn
Baby Got it goin on
Alot of pimps won't like this song
Cuz them punks lie to hit it and quit it
But I'd rather stay and play
Cuz I'm long and I'm strong
And I'm down to get the friction on
So ladies (yeah), Ladies (yeah)
Do you wanna roll in my Mercedes (yeah)
Then turn around
Stick it out
Even white boys got to shout
Baby got back
(LA face with the Oakland booty)
Yeah baby
When it comes to females
Cosmo ain't got nothin to do with my selection
36-24-36
Only if she's 5'3"
So your girlfriend throws a Honda
Playin workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns hun
You can do side bends or sit-ups, but please don't lose that butt
Some brothers wanna play that hard role
And tell you that the butt ain't gold
So they toss it and leave it
And I pull up quick to retrieve it
So cosmo says you're fat
Well I ain't down with that
Cuz your waste is small and your curves are kickin
And I'm thinkin bout stickin
To the beanpole dames in the magazines
You aint it miss thing
Give me a sista I can't resist her
Red beans and rice did miss her
Some knucklehead tried to dis
Cuz his girls were on my list
He had game but he chose to hit 'em
And pulled up quick to get with 'em
So ladies if the butt is round
And you wanna triple X throw down
Dial 1-900-MIXALOT and kick them nasty thoughts
Baby got back
Baby got back
Little in tha middle but she got much back x4
Ok it's about big butts, but it's hillarious, fun and makes you smile, well it makes me laugh anyways.

Word to all those who said crap isn't good music!
The whole culture around rap, the idea of having to degrade persons to act cool (yes, even your oh-so-good Big Butts does that), it's sickening!
And so think 99% of the people I want to aknowledge knowing.
I can't stand rap to such a degree I don't ever listen to radio, in case they decide to play rap or pop.
And before you say I'm just an old jerk, I'm 15.
Music is music because it makes you feel good.
Does calling people a bitch make you feel good?
Does "I hate my life and want to die" make you feel good (this is @ the screamo link in the first post)?
What makes me feel good in the music i listen to is the brilliant lyrics which goes deeper than "**** yo mom" and "da hood".
The spine tingling solos and mindbusting riffs.
And that you can find many places, just not in (most) -emo/-core bands and pop/hiphop/rap.
My favorites include: Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Guns n' Roses, AC/DC, Nightwish, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppersm System of a Down and last, but not least, many of the modern ballad/classical songs in most games nowaday (Final Fantasy, GW, Morrowind, Star Ocean).
So go the real music, down with the wannabe music.
And the piper will lead us to reason!

I'm not a big rap listener - I could point out some that annoy me and some that sounded fun. I'm not a fan of rap but I appreciate that it's not all bad. I have to admit most of the commercial/mainstream stuff I hear I don't like.
Can we have a pro-rap person come in and drop a few names of good rap artists?

Those are all good bands, but....I dunno, complaining about "I Hate Life and Want to Die" lyrics and then listening to AiC, Nirvana and Nightwish seems kinda odd. (Of course, being depressing doesn't make those bands any less amazing)
I'm far from someone with in depth knowledge about rap, but I will wholeheartedly support the idea that there is good rap out there....It's just not on MTV. I've always liked Dell the Funky Homo Sapien. You don't get any of the bitches and benjamins MTV garbage from him.

I dont care about this pathetic noise, those popular punk rockstars: Beethoven Mozart, pft...
Back in my days, we listened to real music, like JS Bach.

He is right though. I HATE rap, at least the commercial crap they play on the radio all the time. But older, more mature style rap I can listen to. Try Mos Def, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul. Not this richy-rich wanna-be bling-blinging thug crap they play now; it's all the same. But then again, the same thing goes for todays angst-driven alternative rock...Staind hasn't had a new song since their first one, and everone else basically copies them anyways LOL.
Personally, I dig Led Zep over Pink Floyd, but it's just me. I like the bluesy style more I guess. But all in all, PF ranks in my top 5 all time bands. Right up there with LZ, the Doors, STP, and RHCP.

There is nothing like taking a trip to Sweet Home Chicago and going out to the blues clubs, cracking open a beer and enjoying the evening with one of the best sounds ever. I do this at least once a year when I go to the NRA show. (National Restaurant Assc.....not the Gun one ). I always get suppliers to take me to the clubs. Most of my suppliers are Europeon and love the Blues Sound and are glad to use their expense accounts for our enjoyment.

Maybe all the rap fans are out there getting laid and driving bentleys with 22" gen enrusted rims while we play Guildwars. They removed some PvP bling, the pimp sticks, I mean rank sticks, but Fissure armor is Bling Bling. Rank emotes are the big pimping though
